27 weeks and counting

Well, a lot has happened over the last two weeks. Here's a recap:

On December 1, 2009, as I was laying on the couch watching TV while Kevin was getting ready to go to work. While lying down, the baby started to move and kick quite a bit for about 15 to 20 minutes or so. When Kevin came out in to the living room, I told him to come over to me. He looked at me funny and told me that he was getting ready for work. I told him to come over to me again, and he did. I told him to put his hand on the side of my abdomen and hold it there. He then put his hand where I told him to and waited a few seconds. He looked at me and said, I don't feel anything. I told him to have some patience. After a few seconds, he looked at me and had a big grin on his face, the baby had kicked him in the hand pretty hard a couple of time. He was so excited. I don't think I could have given him a better birthday present.

The next day was his birthday. With him being so hard to shop for because he never asks for anything, I decided to get him a "Family" photo frame and put a couple of pictures in it. I put one of the two of us together, a picture of my growing belly that he took and a picture of the last ultrasound that was done. We went out to dinner with him mom, step dad and sister that night. After dinner, I presented Kevin with his present.

Needless to say, Kevin loved the present. So did everyone else.
Also on December 2, 2009, I had to go to the lab to have my glucose test done to see if I have gestational diabetes. (I'm told that every pregnant woman has to do this test.) it is a test where they make you fast overnight and go in first thing in the morning, drink a really sugary flat orange soda tasting drink and then wait an hour before they draw your blood. Well, I go the test results back yesterday and was told that I have to go back and take the three-hour test because my glucose level was elevated. I was also told that my iron count was low, but all I had to do to fix that problem is take an iron supplement at night. I will be going back to the lab on Monday to have the long test done.
Yesterday, I also had my 27 week checkup with Dr. Swanson. Other than the glucose issue, my pregnancy is going great. The baby does not like the doppler that the doctor/nurses use to check the baby's heartbeat as it just moved around every time the doctor tried to get a reading. i go in and see him again on December 28th, then in January I start seeing him every two weeks and then in February its every one week until the baby's born.
Only 13 more weeks or so!

25 weeks.....

As of today, I am 25 weeks along in the pregnancy. That leaves me with 15 more weeks, give or take a few days, to go until our little bundle of joy arrives.

Yesterday, I went and had a maternity massage at Zena's Island Day Spa. It felt soooo good. I would love to have one of those pillow things they have that has a whole in the middle so you can lay on your tummy and not put any pressure on the baby. I think that it might help me sleep a little better at night as I have always been a tummy sleeper. I only had the 30 minute massage, but am thinking that if I go again, I will do the hour long one next time.

The baby has been moving quite a bit the last few days. I can feel it as it swims about. I can only imagine how big it is by now as it's movements are getting stronger everyday. My only concern about the baby moving this much at this point is it wrapping the umbilical chord around it's neck. I guess it's something that I can talk to my doctor about at our next visit.

Baby movements....

A few nights ago, Kevin and I were laying in bed watching TV when the baby started moving/kicking me pretty hard in my tummy. Kevin looked at me as I winced a little in pain as the movement had caught me off guard. I told him that the baby was moving and was kicking pretty hard.

He placed in hand on my belly and looked a me and said, "I don't feel anything." I told him to give it some time and he might feel something. After a few seconds, he looked at me again and smiled, "I still don't feel anything." I told him, give it some time.

After a few minutes, I felt the baby move and Kevin looked at me with a confused yet excited look on his face and asked me, "Was that the baby move? Did I just feel the baby? Did you feel it?"

I looked at him and just laughed and told him that that was in fact the baby moving. He thought it was the neatest thing to finally feel the baby.

Baby news!

Well, I guess the news is out to everyone...and I'm a little slow for posting on here. I'm pregnant with our first child! Kevin and I are so excited. Our little one is due March 5, give or take a few days.
Our little bundle of joy at 19 weeks, 3 days

Me at 23 weeks, 5 days - Starting to show....

The experience so far has been great. I never really had any morning sickness with the exception of the occasional bout of nauseousness. I started feeling the baby move at about 20 weeks or so and that alone has been entertaining. I have had a few nights where the baby would not let me get comfortable enough to fall asleep because it was moving so much. One of those times, Kevin laid down next to me and started talking to the baby and humming a lullaby. Amazingly it worked and the baby calmed down enough for me to get some rest that night. Recently, the baby has discovered how to push and bruise my ribs. I have never felt anything so painful in my life, but then again, I guess paybacks a bitch!

I'll continue to post more as we get closer to the due date with more pictures and funny stories should they arise. Until then...enjoy!

Never Forget September 11, 2001

These are some of the pictures that Kevin and I took at Ground Zero last year on September 12, 2008 while we were vacationing in New York City. We avoided Ground Zero on the actual day because of all of the attention is was getting and because both presidential candidates were there.
We actually arrived by train from Boston to New York on September 11th to find the whole city in a very somber mood. It was still full of the hustle and bustle you see on TV, but it was very quite for NYC. Kevin and I will always remember what it was like to be in NYC on this day.

To the 343 men and women who gave their lives to save thousands of others, you will never be forgotten! Thank you and God Bless you and your families.

It's been awhile!

I know. I haven't posted anything to my blog in quite a while. I won't lie. Kev and I have been pretty busy as we both have pretty hectic schedules. Here is what has gone on the last couple of months:

May 2009: I turned 30 on the 13th. I didn't do much that day. Kev and I had originally planned for me to work a half-day and then we were going to go to the Visalia Rawhide game since it was an afternoon game. That never happened as Kevin got directed at work and had to work a double. He ended up taking me to an early dinner at Famous Dave's, so it didn't turn out that bad. For the Memorial Day holiday, Kevin and I drove up to Shaver Lake to spend the weekend with his family at the new family cabin they just bought.

June 2009: We got to enjoy quite a few Rawhide games this month. You all know us and baseball! Kevin and I did get to attend the 2009 California/Carolina League's All-Star game in Lake Elsinore. We had a lot of fun and met a few new friends in the process. Kevin and I were able to get two bats, one for each league, signed by the entire team! We had two Rawhide boys there and got to see them both pitch amazing innings. In the end, the Cal League beat the Carolina league in the bottom of the tenth with a walk-off home run! The following weekend, I got to go to Pismo for a couple of days with Becca and her family. It was so nice to escape the heat of the valley for the nice cool, overcast weather of the coast. On Saturday, we drove over to the Oceano Dunes to meet up with Matt and his family for a couple of hours. Matt took everyone riding on the dunes in his Jeep. Dreu had an awesome time. We also took Wes and Beek down to the water to let them play. Although Beek fell asleep in Auntie Jessi's arms before we got to the water, Wes had a good time pulling me into the water and riding on the boogie board. I'm sure he slept the entire way home after all of that excitement!

July 2009: I spent the Fourth of July holiday at Shaver Lake with Kev's family and celebrated Melissa's 23rd birthday. Friday night, we sat out in the lake on the boat watching the fireworks. Kevin came up on Monday morning and we stayed until Wednesday night. On the following Saturday, Becca and I drove up to spend the weekend on the lake with the family again after going on our weekly dog walk out at Woodward Park. We had a great time until I got really sick on Sunday. Becca had to take me back down the hill before Kevin even got there. When I got home, I took a shower and slept the whole rest of the day. The next weekend, Kevin and I went to San Jose for the weekend for a Union convention that he had to attend. I met a few San Jose Sharks hockey players while waiting out in the lobby for Kevin just before lunch one day. That was the highlight of my day. On Sunday, after Kevin was done, we went shopping at the Gilroy outlets and then ended up in Santa Cruz at the Boardwalk (my first time!). While we were there, we found a street called 'Westbrook Street'! For dinner, Kevin took me to my favorite Italian food restaurant, Carinos! (They have the BEST lasagna!) So far, the rest of July has been pretty uneventful. We did go to a few Reno Aces' game when they were in town playing the Grizzlies, but that was about it.

I promise I'll be posting more often. Kevin and I are going to have some changes coming up in the near future that I will be posting. Until then, much love from the Westbrook's!

Visalia Rawhide

The Visalia Oaks are no more. This year, they are being called the Visalia Rawhide. Their new mascot is Tipper the Bull (see picture at right), which is a lot better mascot than the old Chatter the Squirrel/Rat that the Oaks had for years! Not quite sure where they came up with the name 'Rawhide', but it has since grown on the fans every since.

We also have a newly renovated ball park. For those of you who grew up in Visalia, you can remember what the old Recreation Ballpark looked like. There was no shade to sit in and the park was literally falling a part. In the last two years, they have added two pavilion areas and along the right field side have added at 'Hall of Fame Club' (see left), a merchandise store and some new (and desperately needed) bathrooms, which opened this season. The stadium looks completely different.

This year's team has been on a tear! Currently, they are in first place of their division in the California League standings with a record of 12-1. The last time a Visalia team started this hot was in 1978 and the team won the championship!

Go Rawhide!

Nap time!

This is what I cam home to when I got off work. This is only amazing because Penny does NOT like Kevin and normally will not go anywhere near him. Had to take a picture to cherish my three sleeping babies!

Visalia Rawhide Meet the Team Potluck

On Monday, April 6th, myself and the Ranch Hands Booster Club put on a nice potluck for the Visalia Rawhide baseball team to welcome the team to Visalia after their first first official practice at the newly renovated Recreation Park. Kevin and I got to meet several of the Arizona Diamondbacks' top prospects and got a bat signed by the entire team.

After wondering around the renovated stadium and watching the team take batting practice, Kevin and I went and helped set up for dinner. Our contribution to dinner was this lovely cake that was done by the wonderful cake decorators at Costco. I told them I wanted a baseball themed cake and this is what they came up with. We had a lot of complements on the cakes by both Booster members and team players.

Just one word to the wise...do not eat potato or macaroni salad at a potluck! Very bad things can happen later!

Playing hide-n-seek

Yesterday, I spent the day working on my baby blanket that is now almost complete. When Kevin woke up, I set it aside for a while and went and watched some TV with him in the back room. When I came out to make him some lunch...I found this......

I noticed that there was a rather large lump underneath the blanket and it began to move. So I ran to the back room and grabbed my camera to take a few pictures. It stopped moving as I got closer to it, so I lifted it up to see what or who was underneath.

It was Penny! Curled up in a ball in the spot that I had vacated!

I bought myself a new bible.....

Well, Kevin and I have made the biggest decision we will make together at husband and wife. We have decided to try to start a family together. Before we left on vacation, we jokingly told our families that we were hoping to bring home a little souvenir in about nine months. The funny part of the whole thing was when I told everyone that I was too sick to enjoy our last day in Florida, everyone asked me if I was morning sick. The answer to that is....no.

Well, yesterday, I was talking to a client who has two daughters who are 3 years old and 10 months old. We were talking about the fact the Kev and I are trying to have a baby. Well, she originally came in to talk about her case and we ended up talking for half an hour about what to do. She recommended that I go out and buy a book entitled 'What to Expect When You Are Expecting'. It is apparently supposed to be the pregnancy bible and my client told me that it helped her through both of her pregnancies. (She's not the first person to recommend this book to me, though.) Well, I did after work.

The funny part is the fact that Kev is reading it too. I had set in on the coffee table while I ate dinner last night and Kev started to read through it while I ate. When he was done, I started to read it, only to have him start laughing at me. Who knew that you had to have so many shots before you became pregnant....and I HATE needles!

Well, I guess now is the waiting game. We'll keep trying and we'll both keep reading the book hoping that sometime in the near future we will be pregnant. Wish us luck!

Can Anything Else Go Worng with the House?

So, Kevin and I got back from Florida late Sunday night. I was sick and all I wanted was to take a nice hot shower and crawl into my own bed to sleep. Little did we know that my wish would not come true right away!

When we walked into the house, Kevin tried to turn on the lights. I reminded him that we had unplugged most to the lights in the house when we left over two weeks ago and went into the kitchen to turn on the kitchen light. We then walked through the house trying to turn on the rest of the lights. When that didn't work, we realized that we had no power. I then went to the fridge to see exactly how long power had been out. What we found was a spoiled mess! Everything in both the fridge and freezer had to be thrown out!

One thing that Kev has learned over the years is that I tend to be a real bitch when I am sick, so, he made me call and deal with PG&E. After being on hold for over 45 minutes, we finally got someone to pick up the line and deal with our issue. It turned out that PG&E came out on Wednesday or Thursday to replace our old meter with a new smart meter. When they did this, the worker failed to check to see if power came back on or even leave a note on the door saying that they had replaced the meter and to contact them if we had problems. I screamed at the poor lady on the other end that I was tired and a little hungry but couldn't eat anything because we have to throw it all out because it was spoiled.

In the end, I talked PG&E into reimbursing us for the money we had to spend on buying groceries to replace what had been spoiled because of their stupidity and to also credit us four days on our next bill. All we have to do in return is send them our grocery receipts and copies of our hotel bills proving that we were in fact out of town for that long. Problem one was taken care of just after midnight and Kev and I were able to go to bed around 3 a.m. after having to clean the fridge and kitchen floors.

Problem number two had to arise last night. I went to take a what I was hoping was a nice hot shower. After just a few minutes in the shower, the water turned luke warm and wouldn't get any hotter. I yelled at Kev and I thought the pilot light in the water heater had gone out again (this had happened right before we left on vacation and Kev re-lite it). I had to get out of the shower and dry off after not get to take the shower I needed to clean up. Well, Kevin spent about 15 minutes trying to get the darn thing to light and it never did. He eventually gave up and got dressed and left for work. When he got home this morning, he tried lighting the pilot light again, and it still would not light.

By this time, it was time for me to get up and take a shower and get dress so that I could go to work. Well, my shower consisted of taking a hand towel, wetting it and putting it in the microwave for a few seconds so that I could at least wash my face. I had to call our apartment manager at 6:50 a.m. to have some one come out a look at it and hopefully fix it before I get home from work so that I can finally take that nice hot shower I so desperately need!

Orlando, Florida

Well, it has been a week since we left on our vacation. We've had a lot of fun so far. On our first day, Kev and I went to the Kennedy Space Center where we took a tour of the compound. The next space shuttle launch is currently scheduled for this coming Sunday, so the space shuttle Discovery was already on the launch pad waiting to be shot into space. We saw the original Saturn V rocket, and even toured the International Space Station Processing Center.

On Saturday and Sunday, we went to Daytona Beach, Florida and spent the days wondering around the Daytona International Speedway. We did the Daytona 500 Experience where we got to see the winning car of last year's Daytona 500 race and got to ride in a NASCAR simulator (where some lady hit me in the nose with the lap bar). After the Experience, we walked through the Midway where we got to walk through the sponsor and driver trailers. Kevin bought a few Jeff Gordon things and I bought some Mark Martin stuff for my step-dad. We also both each of our fathers a Daytona 500 shirt. After lunch, we ended up getting $130 tickets to the Nationwide Daytona 300 race for $20 a piece and went to that race. Watching my first NASCAR race was quite an experience. You never realize just how fast those cars go by until you are standing in the front row as the drive by. On Sunday, we watched the superbowl of NASCAR races, the Daytona 500. Kevin and I arrive really early. We bought fan zone passes and were able to go down to the in field and watch the pre-race car inspections. We also got to watch Keith Urban preform a pre-race concert. We even got to sign the checkered finish-line! Unfortunately, the race was cut short by 46 laps by rain and NASCAR officials decided to end the race.

On Monday, we took Kevin's Aunt Becky's advice and took the day off to scout out the various theme parks we were going to. On Tuesday, we spent the day at the Magic Kingdom. It is just like Disneyland, but in minature. On Wednesday, we went to the Aminal Kingdom where we went on an African safari and rode the Mt. Everest Expedition. We saw alot of animals we would not see any where else. Yesterday, we spent the day at Epcot. We rode the Test Track, Mission Space (which really messed us up), Soarin' and the Nemo ride. When we got out of the Nemo ride, it was pouring rain. We decided to run back to our locker and get our rain pounchos. (Bad idea, we were soaked by the time we got to the locker.) After it finished raining, we decided we needed to go back to the hotel and change out of our wet clothes. After we took a short nap and changed, we went back to the park.

Today, we are taking another day off. We are both exhausted. We are going to relax and go to the Wide World of Sports to watch the Altanta Braves practice for spring training and hopefully find some mexican food for dinner.

We still have one more Disney park to go to and the Universal Studios and Sea World. And we have a little more than a week to go before we head home. I'll keep posting as the time goes by.

Leaving on a jet plane....

Well, vacation time has finally arrived. Kevin and I leave for Orlando tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. The original reason we are going so soon after our last vacation is because Aunt Becky and Uncle Mike got us tickets to watch the Daytona 500 with them. Well, you know me and Kevin....we don't like quickie vacations, so we are spreading this one out to two weeks.

In that time we plan to see the following sites:
1. the Kennedy Space Center
2. All four Disney World Parks and World of Baseball
3. Sea World
4. Universal Studios
5. Miami
6. Ft. Lauderdale
7. the Everglades
8. Tampa Bay...and, like we'd forget!
9. Baseball Spring Training Complexes!

We are both really looking forward to this trip. Keep checking back as we will be posting updates and pictures while we are gone.

See you all real soon!

A funny thing happened on the way to the laundry room!

I spent most of Saturday evening working on my needle knitting. I had took apart what I had started in my class because I had made it too big, so I started a new one. Well, after Kevin left for work that night, I decided to take a shower and start a load of laundry and maybe watch a movie as I worked on my knitting.

Everything was going great....until I dragged my laundry hamper into the living room. I noticed a long piece of fabric lying on the floor. I thought it was the cat toy, so I bent down to pick it up. As I got closer to the fabric, I realized that it wasn't the cat's toy at all. It was my yarn!

One of the kids had pulled the knitted needle off the couch and into the kitchen, leaving a trail of yarn all of the living room, dinning room and kitchen. I ended up spending the rest of the night untangling all of the knots out of the yarn and making a yarn ball to keep it untangled.

We are not sure which kid it was, but Kevin and I have an idea that it was Penny. Guess I learned my lesson!

(Now, if I had only been smart enough to take a picture of the mess before I picked it up!)

How to send a care package to some one you miss:

Step One: go out and buy a 9x9x9 shipping box to put things in. You need the box first so that you can buy things that will fit into it.

Step Two: run by See's Candy and buy a sample size box and a one pound box of chocolate (the heart shaped one fits this box perfectly. *You buy two so that she will be more willing to share the chocolate with the people that have no idea what See's Candy is*

Step Three: You make a nice scarf from chenile yarn in her favorite color.

You realize that the box is still too empty so you follow steps four and five.

Step Four: run to craft store and buy pretty yarn that you think she can make something beautiful out of.

Step Five: While waiting in a long line, you find a cute pair of St. Patty's Day socks you think she might like and spot a bag of Pixi Stix that bring back memories of junior high and decide to grab those too.

Step Six: Put all finds in 9x9x9 box, seal, address and run to post office to mail.

When the package is complete....it should look like this:

From California, With Love!

I can knit!!!

I'm so excited! I took a knitting class last night at JoAnn's Craft Store and had a good time. When I first started to knit, I was using the Knifty Knitter looms and was making scarfs. After the class, I can now use the needles and make what ever I want.

Next craft to master....quilting! But that's a little ways down the road.

Scarfs, Scarfs and more Scarfs!

One day, while I was out shopping with my mom at the local craft store, I told her that I wanted to learn how to knit.

Fast Foward a few weeks to Christmas Eve....Kevin and I had gone over to see my mom and step-dad for Christmas and to exchange gifts before they left for the Vegas vacation. When I opened my gifts, I started to laugh because she had gotten me some knitting looms and yarn.

My first attempt at knitting didn't quite come out because I didn't really know what I was doing and is now falling apart. I used a regular multi colored pastel blue and purple yarn.

After the first one, I discovered chenile yarn at JoAnn's....nice and soft! I thought it would make a really nice scarf as I was actually getting pretty cold here in California. Here is the start of one that I made....

By this time I was hooked and in two weekend, I had made five scarfs.... Midnight Blue, Black, Periwinkle Blue, Hunter Green and an Ameythist print...

Each of these scarfs take almost two skeins to make and are hand-washable. I made the midnight blue one for my best friend Becca and a black for her mom, the green one for my bestest best friend Karen, and periwinkle blue on for me and the ameythist print for a friend of Kevin's. These are the adult versions.

When my friend's son, Dreu, saw the scarfs, he wanted me to make him one, which I did. I made the adult version a little thinner for a child to wear.

I ended up making two of them....one for Dreu (which he loved when I gave it to him) and one for my niece, Rhiannon.

I've been a busy little girl....now if I could just learn to use my knitting needles!

Too Funny Not to Post....

The Deaf Bookkeeper

A mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper has cheated him out of ten million bucks. His bookkeeper is deaf. That was the reason he got the job in the in the first place. It was assumed that a deaf bookkeeper would not hear anything that he might have to testify about in court.

When the Godfather goes to confront the bookkeeper about his missing ten million, he brings along his attorney, who knows sign language.

The Godfather tells the lawyer, "Ask him where the ten million bucks he embezzled from me it."

The attorney, using sign language, asks the bookkeeper where the money is.

The bookkeeper sign back: "I don;t know what you are talking about."

The attorney tells the Godfather: "He says he doesn't know what you're talking about."

The Godfather pulls out a pistol, puts it to the bookkeeper's temple and says, "Ask him again!"

The attorney signs to the bookkeeper: "He'll kill you if you don't tell him!"

The bookkeeper signs back: "OK! You win! The money is in a brown briefcase buried behind the shed in my cousin Enzo's backyard in Queens!"

The Godfather asks the attorney: "Well, what'd he say?"

The attorney replies....."He says you don't have the balls to pull the trigger."

An open letter to the guy in the dark green Saturn.....

Dear Mr. Green Saturn Driver:

Be warned that I have your license plate number and make and model of your car and have reported it to the California Highway Patrol after you hit my poor little Kermie and drove away without exchanging any information. What you did was wrong!!! A good motorist should know that if you hit another car, you should automatically put the car in park and get out to exchange insurance information. You, my friend, are not a good motorist as you told me to get go and then sped away as I grabbed my cell phone to snap a picture of your license plate.

Now, I am not sure if you even did any damage to my car, but causing an accident and then driving away is wrong. In fact, it is so wrong that it is called Hit and Run and is a criminal misdemeanor. So, when that CHP officer comes knocking at your door to give you a ticket. Be afraid....be very afraid!

Sincerly,

Kermie's very sore owner
